Performance and Installation

Life is constructed by our own individual perceptions. To one person the color yellow could mean happiness, remind them of the sun dresses they wore as a little girl, and the color of their room in their wonderful childhood home. To another, the same color could cause fear and anxiety, remind them of their abusive upbringing, and the time spent punished in the little yellow room, that was both a place of imprisonment and escape. We bring with us our own perceptions everywhere we go, we see them in everyone we meet, and experience completely different things when we gaze upon the same things. It is because of this that I create rooms, and performances that invoke perception. What I see in the work is irrelevant. It is what you experience that matters, and that you become aware of your own perception.

This Room is shown in a dark gallery. It has a slight glow of white light that leaks underneath the door from inside. There is a loud sound of static coming from within. It tempts a viewer to enter. When you open the door, the light and sound shut off. One is left in darkness. If the viewer shuts the door behind them the static and sound return. Inside is a television showing nothing but static. Within this enclosed room, you can not here anything outside. You are enclosed in a space that is sperate from the world outside. Consumed in White light and Noise. Here you are isolated, left only with your unique perceptions and thoughts.
